Pinewood DerbyMonday, January 11 at 7:00 pm is the Pack 16 Pinewood Derby. The Pinewood Derby cars are an opportunity for Scouts to take the lead and their adult partners to work with them, practicing skills of craftsmanship and sportsmanship. Bring your cars ready to race and have a good time! There is a category for speed and a category for design, or show.

There are lots of websites that give tips on how to construct a car. An important tip is to bring the car close to the maximum weight (which is 5.00 oz). Hobby Town in Southview has a Pinewood Derby scale which you can use for free. Hobby Town and the Scout Shop have lots of extra tools, weights, and decals for Pinewood Derby cars. Second, graphite lubrication in the axles helps a lot. Third, consider filing and polishing the axles to remove the ridges and burs. The complete rules for our district are posted here.

We will start the night with the official races by members of the Pack. Following that will be the outlaw division in which any family members or friends can race.
